I used basically the same method as the wizards except I made the bases oblong or circles.
I used mostly transparent acrylic to differentiate the monsters from the wizards. The troll is based on the original Monster Manual picture. The biggest challenge was making a skeleton that was thick enough not to break and still look like a skeleton. Even so, my first skeleton became a headless skeleton when I tried to clamp it. The democratic monster was based on Gossamer from the Looney Tunes cartoons (also known as Rudolf and Monster). Basing the shadow on the comic book character made it easier for me to remember what it was.
